Every school that attends the Outdoor School program is required to provide a minimum of one cabin leader per nine students attending. Cabin Leaders are assiged a cabin group, of typically 9 to 12 students, and and are responsible for ensuring the physical and emotional safety and well-being of each student. They sleep in the dormitories with the kids, and are with the kids, literally 22 hours per day. We recommend high school juniors and seniors, who are the type of role models that you want for your students. Some schools choose to bring parent cabin leaders.

Serving as a volunteer Cabin Leader at the outdoor school can be a rich and rewarding experience for high school students and parents. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, it is important to understand that you must be able to be available for the entire outdoor school program, and you will not have time to do any homework or conduct any businses for the duration of your stay. From our experience, during your two short breaks during the day, you will most likely want to take a shower and/or take a nap! For furhter information, contact the elementary school that you would like to volunteer for.
