Meals at the Outdoor School are served "Familly Style" and are prepared by a professional food service staff and served in our beautiful dining hall, which can seat up to 160 people. With prior notice, vegetarian options are always available, and every effort is made to accommodate the special dietary needs of students, teachers, and Cabin Leaders.
Through the support of a grant from the Chez Panisse Foundation efforts are underway to incorporate more fresh foods from local farms and to suppliment menus with fresh produce from the Ranch Garden that the students help to grow, harvest and clean.
The student dormitories are equipped with sturdy wood frame bunk beds, and are clean, comfortable, carpeted, and heated. Students are assigned to cabin groups of 8 to 12 students, and are supervised by a high school or parent cabin leader provided by our visiting schools. The dormitories circle a central bath house equipped with restrooms, sinks, and on-demand hot water for showers.
Important note to parents of students with severe allergies or strict dietary needs such as lactose or gluten intolerance: Please provide as much detail as possible on the student dietary form, and feel free to contact our Food Services Manager, Fradel Been, directly by phone at (415) 491-6600 or email, to discuss details.
All meals are provided from arrival day dinner through departure day lunch. Don’t for get to bring your own bag lunch for arrival day! Our Outdoor School menus are healthy, abundant and “kid friendly”. Meals are served “family style” to enhance the social development of our students. Afternoon snacks are provided daily.
