Hands-On Science

We take pride in providing hands-on, field based activities that bring to life the science being taught in the classroom. The Outdoor School is an active memeber of California Outdoor School Adminstrators (COSA), a statewide body of County and District operated residential outdoor science schools. As such, every five years a COSA certification team of 3 or 4 site directors from around the state visits for 2 days, and interviews staff, observes trail activities and conducts a certifcation to ensure that we are maintaining a high quality standards-based instructional program, as well as meeting health and safety guidelines. COSA's certification is endorsed and recognized by the California Department of Education and the State Superintendent of Instruction.

Other Curricular Areas

Though science is the core curriculum at outdoor school, many of our activites also directly support state content standards in language arts, history/social studies, math, and performing arts. We also believe that through the outdoor school experience, students become more excited about learning in general!
