Each student should arrive with a backpack containing:

Adult Volunteers
Cabin leaders and Teachers will participate in training on the first part of Arrival Day. It can be helpful to have extra adults present to support Walker Creek Ranch staff with supervision.

Hiking shoes, long pants, sunscreen, water bottle, bag lunch

Health Center and Medications
Health Center Coverage
Each school will be responsible for the Health Center needs for their students, including administering medications. You can bring a nurse, doctor, EMT, or paramedic to help with meds – free of charge! Otherwise, the responsibility for coverage will be the classroom teacher(s).
Medications (student and high school cabin leader)
​Any medication that comes with a student or high school cabin leader, both prescription and over-the-counter (including vitamins or supplements), are required to:

Be kept in the health center and administered by the classroom teacher

Have a completed Physician's Authorization Form
Classroom Teachers should:

Collect student meds before arrival

Bring medication boxes to the Health Center upon arrival
Medications that should be kept with the student or high school cabin leader at all times are emergency medications such as inhalers or epi-pens. ​​
Cabin Leaders
Expectations and Responsibilities
Cabin leaders help to provide support and supervision for the students while at Walker Creek Ranch. It is expected that the cabin leaders participate in all of the activities during their stay. Each cabin leader has 1-2 short breaks during the day.

Student to Cabin Leader Ratios
Schools can bring up to 2 cabin leaders per cabin at no additional charge. Each cabin should have at least 1 cabin leader for every 9-12 students and should be assigned to cabins in advance on the Cabin Assignment List. Each school assumes responsibility for determining guidelines and vetting volunteers.

What to expect
Teachers are the behind-the-scenes heroes who support students during their special week here!
During their stay, teachers occupy the Teachers’ Lodge where they share rooms.
Each morning and evening, teachers administer medicine to students, and make sure the health center has support during trail time.
Teachers come to each meal too, as one way to hear about student’s weeks, share a meal together, and help dismiss students afterwards.
​Every evening, teachers have one hour with their classroom to share stories and lessons from the week thus far.
​Before bed, teachers make “the rounds” around cabins to make sure students are getting ready for the 9:30 PM bedtime.
